Tour to the Hermitage museum.

Tour to The State Hermitage Museum is one the most interesting attractions of St. Petersburg. All guests of St. Petersburg try to visit the Hermitage. The State Hermitage  Museum is on the first position of the “must visit” list of St. Petersburg. The largest museum in Russia is a real treasure of world culture, collection of the best works of art – all this is true about The Hermitage Museum. If you think that you’ve been to the The Hermitage once and have seen it all, think again because it is impossible to see everything during the first visit. There are about 3 million items and works of art; to see each piece for 1 minute you will have to spend 8 years in the museum! Each time the museum opens its secrets for you.  People with different interests can find something for them. The Hermitage is an inexhaustible source of beauty and knowledge. A privately guided tour to The State Hermitage Museum is designed to help you discover it with comfort and pleasure.

The museum is in several buildings in the very center of St. Petersburg. During the tour to the Hermitage you’ll see inside of the Winter Palace, the Small Hermitage, the Old Hermitage, the Hermitage Theatre, and the New Hermitage. In 2014 the General Staff Building was opened after reconstruction. Now the collection of the Impressionists and temporary exhibitions are housed in the General Staff Building

This complex of museum buildings was constructed between 1750 and 1850.  The Winter   Palace is one of the most beautiful palaces in the world; it is a symbol of the Russian imperial power. The palace is the oldest of the museum buildings. Inside the Winter  Palace you’ll see the gala halls, staircases, and works of art. Please remember that the Winter  Palace is a former main residence of the Russian tsars, the tour to the Hermitage is not only visiting a gallery, but it is also an introduction to the history of Russia.

The birth of the Hermitage museum is linked with the name of Catherine the Great. In 1764 she purchased a collection of paintings from a Prussian merchant Gotskovsky: more than 200 works of art, created by Dutch and Flemish masters. After Catherine II founded the museum, one purchase followed another, and her clever diplomacy helped her to gather pieces of art and raise the authority of Russia.

Today works by Leonardo da Vinci, Titian, Rembrandt, Velasquez, Raphael, van Gogh, Monet and other great masters are all exhibited in the Hermitage. During the tour to the Hermitage you’ll also see items from Egypt, Ancient Greece, and Rome, and many, many more wonders.  Jewelry and gold collection are displayed in the Gold and the Diamond Rooms. A special tour to the Gold and the Diamond Rooms can be added to the general tour of the Hermitage.

General guided tour to the Hermitage lasts 1,5 – 3 hours. The time spent in the museum depends directly upon your wishes.  Don’t worry about queues; I can book special tickets for the entrance to the Hermitage without any queues.
